Past Workshops
On March 11th, we held our first movement and dance workshop at the Gwangju International Center. Our second was June 10th. Designed and directed by Angie Hartley, choreographer extraordinaire, they were both a rousing success and enjoyed by all who came out.  Check out the great video by David Cowger of Gwangju News Online!

GIC Talk:
Dance as Art and Education

June 9th, 2012 3pm
Gwangju International Center

On June 9th, Angie Hartley discussed the past, present, and future of dance as art.  What is modern dance?  Does interpretive dance really exist as an art form?   Participants even got a chance to create something!  See the video!

Monthly Movement Workshops

Second Sunday of each month in the GIC Talk room.
4:30-5:30pm beginning June 10, 2012
The final monthly workshop will be Sunday, June 9th at 4:30pm.

Thoughts on Dance:

"When people don’t understand something, there’s often a jump right away to dislike, or to 'this thing failed to sell itself to me.' I think, 'No, you maybe didn’t give yourself permission to not understand it.' There’s something about that permission, to detach and kind of blend into the occupation, that is really critical, really important. People always have experiences and feelings that they think they’re not supposed to have, or that they’re not allowed to articulate as their experience of the work." -Miguel Gutierrez, September 2012
